Weekly holiday allowance = holiday hours x hourly wage

Conditions
- You work at least 15 hours per week on average.
- You attend all the workdays you were scheduled to work that week. Paid annual leave counts as attendance.
- You are scheduled to work in the following week as well. If your last week of employment is a full scheduled week, you are still entitled to the allowance for that week.
Is it already included in my hourly wage?
Many part-time job offers say the hourly wage "includes weekly holiday pay". In that case your real hourly wage is lower. For example, KRW 12,000 including holiday pay for a 40-hour week is about KRW 10,000 per hour (12,000 x 40 / 48). The minimum wage check should be done on the hourly figure without the holiday pay unless the contract clearly separates them. The allowance applies to part-time workers and students on any visa.
Frequently asked questions
What is the weekly holiday allowance (juhyu-sudang)?
A paid weekly day off required by the Labor Standards Act. If you work at least 15 hours a week and attend all your scheduled workdays that week, you receive an extra day of pay (up to 8 hours) on top of your hourly wages.
How is it calculated?
Holiday hours = min(weekly scheduled hours, 40) / 40 x 8. Weekly holiday allowance = holiday hours x hourly wage. For example, 40 hours per week at KRW 10,320 gives 8 x 10,320 = KRW 82,560.
Do part-time workers and students get it?
Yes, if you work at least 15 hours per week. Below 15 hours per week there is no weekly holiday allowance.
Do I lose it if I miss a day?
If you miss a scheduled workday without approved leave, you do not receive the allowance for that week. Paid annual leave counts as attendance.
